Christian Evidences for the Classroom

From Issue: R&R Volume 29 #8

With a new fall school term just around the corner, we would like to remind our readers of the invaluable resources available from Apologetics Press for teachers and students. You may ask, “What’s so important or necessary about providing Christian evidence materials?” There are several answers to that question. For one, the Bible advocates their use. It was Peter who reminded us that the Christian must “be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15). We are commanded to “contend earnestly for the faith, once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). As more and more Americans doubt God’s existence, Jesus’ deity, and the inspiration of the Bible, Christians are finding themselves more frequently challenged to defend these truths. We must be willing and able to “test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21). And we absolutely must recognize the crucial need to prepare our children and grandchildren to do the same.

Also, we all need our own faith reaffirmed and encouraged. Studying Christian evidences naturally strengthens our faith. Accepting the tenets of New Testament Christianity is not based on supposition and uncertainty. We can know that God exists and that the Bible is His Word! What’s more, we should desire to demonstrate the validity of the Christian system to those around us, in hopes that they will be saved. Further, we should study Christian evidences so that we can defend Christianity correctly, avoiding the misguided and ineffectual attempts to press the truth in the face of sophisticated, clever attacks made upon it by its enemies.

May I gently and kindly remind you of the tremendous responsibility that we bear. Life is short! We have no time to waste! The most important battle of human existence is upon us! Eternity is in view! In the words of the hymn writer: “Encamped along the hills of light, ye Christian soldiers, rise, and press the battle ere the night shall veil the glowing skies”!
