AP’s Newest Release: Has the Bible Been Corrupted?

From Issue: R&R – Issue 46 #10

“How do you know the Bible you have today is what God originally inspired nearly 2,000 years ago?” It’s a fair question—and a very important one. After all, none of the original handwritten New Testament documents still exist.

Before the invention of the printing press, copies of Scripture had to be made painstakingly by hand—letter by letter, word by word. And since these copies were made by uninspired, imperfect human beings, differences (commonly called “textual variants”) inevitably arose among the manuscripts.

Does this mean that the Bible has been corrupted? Can we really know what Matthew, Paul, Peter, John, and the other inspired writers originally wrote?

AP’s Dr. Dave Miller addresses these questions in his newest book, Has the Bible Been Corrupted? And the evidence is overwhelmingly reassuring.

Dave meticulously explains how the Bible was transmitted through the centuries, how manuscript variations arose, and how scholars can determine the original readings. He also walks readers through several well-known textual questions, including John 7:53-8:11, Acts 8:37, 1 John 5:7-8, and Mark 16:9-20. The book even includes chapters addressing the preservation of the Old Testament and the issue of English translations.

Perhaps most impressive is the sheer amount of evidence available. Currently, more than 6,000 Greek New Testament manuscripts are known to exist, not to mention ancient translations and countless quotations from early Christian writers. The manuscript evidence for the New Testament is far greater than that available for any ancient classical author.

For years, skeptics, atheists, liberal theologians, and others have alleged that centuries of copying have hopelessly corrupted the Bible. Has the Bible Been Corrupted? takes that allegation seriously—and answers it with reason and evidence.

Christians need not fear an honest examination of the biblical manuscripts. In fact, the closer we examine the evidence, the more reason we have to be thankful that, through God’s providence, His Word has been remarkably preserved for us.

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8).
